Gigs were invaluable with the schooner moored in port.
Referred to as rowboats by those landlocked, a gig was easy to lower overboard, needed minimum crew, and was quick to dispatch.
Our lapstrake gigs are not seaworthy though they most certainly look like it. Display shelves turn them into fun cabinets and bookcases.
